Army sergeant who saved 2 comrades to get Medal of Honor

Sgt. 1st Class Leroy Arthur Petry will be only the second living service member from the Afghanistand and Iraq wars to recieve the Medal of Honor. He lost his right hand throwing an armed enemy grenade back in an attempt to protect wounded soldiers. He is a thirty-one year old from Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has recieved two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and three Army Commendation Medals. The first living service member Medal of Honor recipient was Staff Sgt. Sal Giunta.

I agree with rosey, its awesome to hear that people are saving lifes, and getting everyones back. They are a team, thats what they need to be to be successfull. These guys but their lives at stake everyday, and they are proud of it. And all of the citzens in the U.S should be proud of them as well, no matter the circumstances.

Slugger Killebrew, 74, dies of cancer

Harmon Killebrew a long time great and hall of famer of the Minnesota Twins died Tuesday after battling esophageal cancer. He was 74 years old. In his great career he ended up with 573 homeruns in 22 years of baseball. With his 573 homeruns that puts him in 11th place all time for homerun leaders. Also his 8- 40 or more homerun seasons is still tied with Babe Ruth for the most ever.

After comprehending Ryan's information, i agree that he is most defiently one of the twins best sluggers to take a part in the team. It is tradgeic that we have to see such a committed and great baseball player to be heading to a better place. He will be missed.

Police say Cheung was fatigued when the Sky Express bus he was driving swerved off the highway shortly before 5 a.m., hit an embankment and overturned. It had departed Greensboro, N.C., Monday night bound for New York City with 58 people. According to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration records, Sky Express buses have been involved in four crashes with an injury or fatality — it didn't specify which — during the two-year period that ended May 20. The company also has been cited for 46 violations of drivers being fatigued over that same time, ranking it worse than 86 percent of similar companies in that category.
Sky Express is part of an industry of inexpensive buses that travel the East Coast offering cheap fares, convenient routes and, in some cases, free wireless Internet. The industry is in the fifth year of a boom, but a string of deadly accidents also has prompted calls for tougher federal regulation.

This Sky Express company should be run out of business sooner than later. With 46 violations and four crashes with unjuries or being fatal. There is no reason for Sky Express to stay on the road. Especially while driving these big busses becuase they are way bigger than the average car driving down the street. And when big busses is mixed with reckless driving, nothing will go good.

New Jobs!

The Labor Department said the U.S. economy added just 54,000 jobs in May, the fewest in eight months and far fewer than the 150,000 forecast for the month. Earlier this week, some economists downgraded their May job growth expectations after a report showed a sharp slowdown in private-sector job creation last month. The pace of hiring slowed sharply in May from the previous three months, when the economy added an average of 220,000 new jobs. Private companies hired only 83,000 new workers — the fewest in nearly a year, and local governments cut 28,000 jobs, the most since November.

More jobs is just what the economy needed! 54,000 new jobs is very very good. There are a lot of unemployed people taking our tax money that we work hard to earn. Which is by far the stupidest most selfish thing that a person could do. It agravates me that some people can just sit on their butt and not have to work for a single thing they do. While the employed have to work hard for their money, but than they have to piss a good chunk of it away to the governement.

Droughts in Texas, Hurting Farmers

A devastating drought tightened its grip on Texas over the last week with more than half the state now suffering the most extreme level of drought measured by climatologists. A report released Thursday from a consortium of national climate experts said over the last week, Texas saw the highest levels of drought — rated as "exceptional" — jump from 43.97 percent of the state to 50.65 percent of the state. Meanwhile, to the north in Oklahoma, another key farming and ranching state, about 30 percent of the state continued to suffer severe and exceptional drought levels. The drought conditions have ravaged the region, sparking thousands of wildfires, drying up grazing land needed for cattle, and ruining thousands of acres of wheat and other crops.Texas farmers and ranchers have already lost an estimated $1.5 billion, and officials said if the drought continues into June, losses for the nation's second largest agriculture producer will top $4 billion, making it the costliest season on record.

Unfortunately for farmers in Texas, that is just not the location to be growing crops this year it looks like. That will hurt them quite a bit considering they've already lost about 1.5 mil. I would hate to be loosing that much money as a farmer considering the gas prices so high and the amount of fuel they have to purchase, they cant afford to be loosing that much money. Farming can be a risky process that's for sure. Because their income is based on the weather in some cases. Just like this year for Minnesota, it was snowing very late during the year. Keeping the ground frozen.

Smaller Cars= Better Deal

Car buyers always consider price. But these days fuel economy is also high up on the list. High gas prices are driving sales of more fuel-efficient models. According to the auto research site Edmunds.com, compacts and subcompacts accounted for nearly a quarter of the new vehicles sold in April. That’s double the market share from 10 years ago. “Smaller cars are better equipped than they were a few years ago,” notes Edmunds.com senior analyst Jessica Caldwell. “They have more amenities, so people don’t feel like they’re giving up much when they go to a smaller car.”

Souce Site: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43239954/ns/business-consumer_news/t/sales-smaller-cars-double-decade/

This is not surprising. Gas prices are through the roof, that's for sure. Who knows if they even need to actually be that high. Its bringing alot of the middle class and lower class citzens way down. I know personally because i just upgraded cars from a little saturn that get about 30 mpg to a suv that gets about 20 if i baby it. It is definitely harsh, and a great way for these little cars to sell is by putting more accessories and cool gadgets in them. Like navigation systems, bose speakers, chrome rims, hids, ect.

Wal-Mart is in a race against time to give the people what they want before they get comfortable shopping elsewhere.Shoppers who switched to other stores when Wal-Mart decided to ditch best-selling toothbrush brands, craft supplies and bolts of fabric may be hard to win back. The company has taken nine months to restore thousands of grocery items, including some bestselling brands, it dumped from its shelves two years ago. The idea was to tidy up stores for the wealthier customers it had won during the recession.
It's a result of higher gas prices, taking probably $20 a week out of the average consumer's pocket," President and CEO Bob Sasser said in a recent call with analysts. "They're looking for value. We have value. They're looking for convenience. We are certainly convenient."

Source Site: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43253439/ns/business-retail/t/wal-mart-struggling-keep-its-customers/

I think walmart is a great store. But i have noticed my self that they have lost a few products. Wal-mart needs to capitalize and not change anything because when they loose something or a products, or a line of products they tend to not get those products back for quite sometime. They just need to keep plugging away and bring their inventory back up and running again to save people gas and time. So they dont need to head to menards or a Mills right after walmart to finish their shopping.

Spring Field Tornadoes

At least 200 people were injured. Some 40 people were hospitalized in Springfield and around 250 others displaced by the storm stayed at shelters, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno said. The state normally averages about two tornadoes per year, with the last lethal twister in 1995. Search and rescue efforts continued and some 40,000 utility customers in Massachusetts were still without power on Thursday after tornadoes ripped through communities. One piece of good news Thursday was that the death toll, initially reported at four, was lowered to three. Two people were killed in West Springfield and another in Brimfield, authorities said. A Springfield death previously blamed on storms may have been an unrelated heart attack, Gov. Deval Patrick said.

Tornadoes are definitely not anything to joke around. They can take life's like its not a big deal. I cant even imagine how it would be to be in a tornado. Especially having someone close to you die like a couple of families had to go through. I hope i never have to go through tornadoes tearing my valuables to shreds or even a fire for that matter. They are dangerous, and you cant take chances when they come. Almost always it end up bad.

Issue #2- Boosting the Mininum

Increasing the mininum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 was a very good idea. With the wage increase and the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which is things like food stamps, all helped to bring people out of poverty so they could live their life a little more comfortable By creating wealth to more and more citzens, the economy will also boost, because when more people can get their hands on more money, more resources and accesories will be purchased. But some people argue that this is not a good idea because nearly half of the people in the work force are teenagers that are not in poverty.

I agree that the mininum wage increase was a great idea. Not only because i get paid more now, but for that it actually helps alot of people out in society. Full time workers that are working 40 hours a week can now make 80 dollars more! thats a huge increase. Especially for large families or for single moms that have to support their kids. That $80 can go a long ways. Everyone can afford to have a little extra cash lieing around. Some people argue that its not smart because teenagers are half of the workforce that are getting the raise. But we are part of the workforce, we all have college to pay for. Its really annoying when people dont take that into a count. We need to have and make money just like anyone else in the world does. I know personally that i would not want to have to be in college and work my butt off 40 hours a week just to make our payments. We need to have a little cash coming in to have and be able to go visit family and live comfortably as well.

Medical Marijuana

Medical Marijuana is a huge hit! The drug is up to 1.7 million dollars in sales. California and Colorado are the two biggest retailers and sales with 92% of the medical marijuana being used their.

Source Site: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/42462741#42256117

Well this goes to show that if the U.S. really wants to do something to boost are economy like none other, they should legalize marijuana. People would go crazy and money would be flowing in now matter what city or state a person can go to.

Hospital Sued For Infants Death

One of the nations best hospitals even made a mistake. A new born baby from a younger couple was getting ill. The doctor suscribed her a specific UV.  One of the assistants messed up and put 60 times the amount of sodium that the infant should have had. Which is enough to kill an adult.

Site Source: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/42462741#42451995

I feel like who ever made up this solution should have at least questioned the doctor or at least somebody on the amount of sodium that was going into this UV solution. I feel like this is a little rediculous that someone working on the force wouldnt reconize such a big quantity of a product that could even harm and adult.

Japan's Crazy Plants

In Japan a few weeks ago there was a huge explosion that happened with hydrogen. Now they have found a way to stop it by pumping nitrogen into the buildings to stop it. There is radioactive water that was leakin into the ocean but workers were able to stop the water from going into the ocean. They first have to get all of the water out before they can actually fix the problem because they have to get at and fix the plumbing and cooling stytems of the reactors.

Site Source:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/42462741#42454398

This is a very dangerous and actually cool type of problem that they have going on there.  I think its cool how they can solve the problem by using other things like they nitrogen to stop the hydrogen from expanding. Its just like chemistry class.

Immitated Drugs

This year there has been a high increase in the amount of people going into the hospital. There were 2700 alone in January while there were only 3200 cases last year alone. People have been smoking fake drugs that have very harmfull poisons in them. Such things called "spice" or "k2".The products are often packaged as incense or bath salts and can be obtained for as little as $10 at many head shops. As more people experiment with them, the results are becoming evident at hospitals: a sharp spike in the number of users who show up with problems ranging from labored breathing and rapid heartbeats to extreme paranoia and delusions. The symptoms can persist for days.

Site Source:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42451802/ns/health-health_care/

This is by far the stupidest thing people should be doing right now. I mean seriously. Some kids just dont want to actually to the real stuff so they used the legal stuff that has now killed many people and harmed many others. I say its almost safer to legalize and tax drugs because drugs are not very harmfull to people at all. In fact, pot is better for you than cigaretes are and other smoking tabacos. But also people just need to take responsibilty for their actions and grow up and stop doing dumb things like k2 and drugs for that matter.

We all Live and We All Die

The body of a popular American teacher known as "Monty-san" has been found in the tiny coastal Japanese town where he worked, more than three weeks after the country was rocked by a powerful earthquake and devastating tsunami, his sister said Wednesday.
“We’ve got a big hole in our universe here,” said Shelley Fredrickson, a 44-year-old sales representative from Anchorage, Alaska, adding that the family was not accepting the confirmation of the death of her brother, Montgomery Dickson, officially until they travel to Japan, "for our own peace of mind."
The family knows little about the circumstances of Dickson's death. The last one to speak to the 26-year-old known as Monty was Naoko, whom he called after his students had evacuated from the school where he was teaching.

Site Source:http://worldblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/04/06/6419977-body-of-missing-us-teacher-monty-san-found-in-japan

Unfortunetly for this family they had to wait 3 whole weeks to find out what had happened to their loved one. I know i would not want to wait three weeks to try to find a family member that had a tsunami come through. Because the worst part is, they actually didnt know if he was alive or dead. Even though most would assume that he is near death or was dead, this family had to try to keep their hopes up. Until the body was found. I know for a fact i want nothing to do with any missing people or scary events that take place with my family or friends. it would be very tough and hard to go through.

Life Taking Storm

An enormous tree limb that crashed through a Georgia family's bedroom killed a father and the young son he was holding in his arms Tuesday as a fast-moving storm system pounded the South with tornadoes, hail and spectacular lightning. At least eight people were killed around the region, including several who died on roads made treacherous by downed trees and power lines.
Paramedics found the 4-year-old boy, Alix Bonhomme III, wrapped in the arms of his father, Alix Bonhomme Jr., in a sight so wrenching that even grizzled rescuers wept. Bonhomme's fiancee, Marcie Moorer, and the couple's younger son were cowering in another room during the storm and escaped injury

This is quite the story. Because when I was about 10 we had a tree in our front that was struck with lightning and went down through but instead of the tree going through the house it dropped the other way. I cant even imagine what it would of been like for the tree to fall down into our house and killed a couple family members. I had an experiance like this but the outcome was much better than this one.

The iPad 2!!!

WOW!! there is serioulsy already another iPad out, for the same exact price at $499 and with a camera in the front as well as on the back of the iPad. The new iPad is thinner than the iPhone 4! Technology just keeps going and going, there is no end. The iPad is designed to work with Verizon and AT&T now as well. Jobs was the man to announce the new arrival of the new iPad, he claims that there was hardly any competition with the iPad, all the companies other than apple just cant keep up. with 15 million sold last year, it was a huge hit. They also came out with a new cover for it,becuase the other cover was too heavy and added weight to it, the new cover folds the same way the other case does, to hold in typing position and movie-watching position. It connects with magnets, and automatically wakes iPad when you open it, and it automatically puts it to sleep when you close it. This to me would be an awesome item to get for college if its not to much to afford. It might take a little while to save it up but in the long run the i pad will benefit and come out strong.

Grab Whats Most Important

There was a fire that struck an apartment building on East 29 th street in New York causing at least 100 people to evacuate. The tragedy killed one person suprisingly with 31 others injured. The fire was located on the higher levels in a 60 level apartment building. 200 fire fighters responded to the scene. Shavan Agard at the age of 34 was giving her daughter a bath when she smelt the smoke, and all she thought about was her daughter and they rushed down the fire escape together safely.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41686928/ns/us_news-life/

This is crazy to take in, everything happens so quickly in these situations that there is only time to take what u value most. Fires can literally just burn your whole life away, they destroy almost everything that a common household product leaving families left with nothing but the clothes on their backs. This is one of those things that i just dont want to have first hand experiance with ever.

Jordan's Posts

Imagine having to walk through a mall or business with a brain injury, not knowing what your doing half the time, or even forgetting how to get home or where your going when your two block down from home. These two Marines Franco and his son are very dedicated to the Marines. Giving their lives and their injuries for the U.S.
I think that the war in Iraq has been a very dramatic issue. Everyday more and more people are gettinginjured severly and killed. In my opinion the soliders should come back home. Everyone is always talking about the U.S debt soon to reach 14.5 trillion, and once that point comes the economy is going to fall apart and gas will shoot up very high, around $10 a gallon. This is pretty rediculous, even though the debt isnt a bad thing all the time, people just think "debt" is always negative when its not. Were always spending money on ammunition and all the additives for the war, this is a big role, especially with ammuntition as scarce and as expensive as it is.
In conclusion, i think we should start pulling more and more people out of the war, and start saving the econonmy from falling apart. Family and friends shouldnt have to be hurt and ruined everyday at the rate that soliders are getting killed in Iraq. Lets pull the out!
